Galveston Bay Adventure--May 27, 2017

Posted by ngolmon on Aug 7 2017 - 12:49am

Sea Scout Ship 777 took the high seas of Galveston Bay on the It’ll Do, our Ship’s Irwin 34, on May 27, 2017. Our adventure began at 10:00 am at Lakewood Yacht Club. We had two new members to the Ship attending their first sail on the Bay. Everyone helped rig the boat, so we were ready to get sailing as soon as possible. The wind was a steady 15 knots which made for an exhilarating sail! We anchored at Red Fish Island, where our crew cooked a delicious lunch of pesto pasta with meatballs, watermelon, and peanut butter jelly sandwiches to supplement. All of the Sea Scouts took turns at the helm learning how to skipper the boat. Our crew abandoned 'left' and 'right' at the dock, replacing them with 'port' and 'starboard', and no one had to experience why the boom is called the boom. Our crew practiced working together by tacking, sail trimming, and learning to use nautical charts. By the end of the sail, our crew was working smoothly together as a team. We arrived at the dock at 1800 with nobody going overboard and sun kissed faces. After we tucked It'll Do in for the night, the crew met at Five Guys for a yummy ending to our fun day.

Website Updates - SHIP 777!

Posted by scsheward on Feb 5 2015 - 11:33am

SOAR has updated their hosting solution to allow us to brand ourselves as a Sea Scout Ship vs. a Boy Scout Troop. I'm not sure where else we might still have an issue with branding. Take a look around the site and let Sean and Steve Sheward know if you find something else you'd like to see changed.
